Asher's Birthday

January 2, 2017

We had given Eric, Peggy and Asher a membership to the Phoenix Zoo for Christmas.

Bruce received a text from Eric. They took their new membership out for a test drive

They reported that Asher loved it.

Asher, age 1.  Exactly!

The airport on Monday, January 2. For fun? Really?

Lily and Logan are coming over.  What to do?  Bruce's suggestion?  Let's go to Sky Harbor!

He knew how much fun Logan and I had when we went there to ride the Air Train several years ago. Plus:
  • The expansion to Terminal 3.was now open.
  • They recently put up a plaque recognizing the "City of Phoenix Civic Improvement Corporation", a board that Bruce co-chairs.
  • It's a holiday and Bruce isn't working.
It all added up to a fun idea.

First order of business was to find the plaque.  We found it in the terminal at 44th and Washington. Logan and Lily were suitably impressed!

We rode the rails.  The train goes back and forth and back and forth and back and....When we tired of that, we checked out the construction at Terminal 3 (couldn't see anything) then headed to Terminal 4 for lunch.  Oh, and a few treats from a gift shop.

We had a terrific lunch at Terminal 4.  Not only was it good food (grilled swordfish and mac and cheese, as chosen by Logan) but it was made even better by the fact that our server knew to get our order and check to us quickly.  What a help.  Just when Lily and Logan started getting squirmy, we were ready to go home.

It was a perfect way to spend the morning on a holiday.

Thing 1. Thing 2.

House work

January 20, 2017

Sometimes our favorite days are the ordinary ones.  No special plans.  Just hanging around.  Finding happiness around the house.  Today was one of those days.

We did some recipe planning...

Lemon picking...

Science experiments with the fruit that we picked.

Reading

Mag board playing.  And playing around.

Castle building.  We were doing great on the castle building front.  Then Papa Bruce came home and took the castle construction project to a whole new level.

Yep.  Just one of those perfect winter days in Camp Happy.

It's more than just Child's Play, take 3.

February 4, 2017

We have come to love Childsplay performances as a family event.  So each year for Christmas, Santa gives Papa Bruce tickets for everyone to one of the Spring performances.

We selected The Cat in the Hat for 2017.  What a joy it was.  All three of the peeps were completely engrossed in the play.  So was I!  The staging was magical.  I was totally captivated.

Lily, Logan and I went up to the stage at the end of the play to talk to the actors. Logan wanted to know how they "stacked" all the items in the air when they were riding bikes.  Lily watched everyone with growing interest.  Luna introduced Logan and Lily as Thing 1 and Thing 2 - the lovable troublemaking characters in the play. The actors laughed/smiled bemusedly.

Asher rocked the new CITH "do rag".

We played outside after the performance.  Asher couldn't get enough of Logan.   Might be the beginning of another Cat in the Hat troublemaking team????

Fun with Uncle Jason's gift

March 29, 2016

Hi, jason. Thought you'd get a kick out of this...

When lily was here today, I was so impressed with her mechanical skills. She didn't just pick things up and put them down just anywhere. She was very specific.

I had a thought about the toy you gave Logan. Sure enough she loved it. This is not a toy for a 10 month old. But after watching me for 10 or 15 minutes, she took a crack at it. She was really good! In total we played with this toy for over over 1/2 hour....a lifetime in 10 month old world.

Of course her most fun was pulling it over and trying to put the whole thing in her mouth. At the end of the day, she's still only 10 months old.

Arizona Concours - peak experiences

January 24, 2016

On Friday right before the Concours, Bruce had a terrific brainstorm about using his favorite photo of Logan and the Ferrari.

He brought it to the hospitality suite, set it up on a stand, and added a note that said: "I'm Logan Paul Covill and I love to use the Arizona Concours App designed by Cyberitas.  Ask me how."

It was a hit.  And not just with Bruce.  Logan stopped in his tracks when he saw it on display, outside of the hospitality suite.

But the real hit was when we found Logan playing around with the app on an Ipad that was on the desk in the room. The app was literally so intuitive to use that a 3 year old could use it.
