Field trip: Planes, trains and automobiles

We played with a new Thomas puzzle in the morning, then decided to take a ride on a real train.

We parked at the East Economy lot at the airport, then headed up the escalator to the Phoenix Sky Train.  We hopped on the train and had a blast riding the train back and forth and back and forth.  I know we did about eight loops.  To Logan, it was a 2 mile train ride.

We got off at Terminal 4.  Turns out that is the best place for watching the planes.  You get it all - taxi, take off and land.

After watching for a while, we went in to the terminal for lunch.  Not such a good proposition for little kids anymore - they've upgraded all the restaurants right out of our sweet spot.  I was hoping for McNuggets.  We settled on chocolate milk, cheese from my sandwich and chips.  Who said progress was all good?

Going back to the terminal, there was a window looking out over the car traffic.  That was easily as much fun as watching the planes.

I was thinking this was a terrific free activity for little peeps.  Then I had to pay $5 to get out of the parking lot.  Oh well, mostly free is okay too.

PS.  Logan was wearing his Ninja Turtle sweatshirt.  No less than five 30-something guys called out to Logan:  "Dude! Great shirt!".  Logan beamed

Logan's Staycation: Postcard #3

Friday, January 17

Dear Mom and Dad,

After nap yesterday, Luna and I played with balls - pretty much all afternoon.  Do you know how much fun that is???  I particularly like throwing it in the front driveway and watching it go all the way down the road.

When Bruce got home, we played a little but I was really wanting some cuddle time.  So we watched Thomas and Wiggles while I cuddled with Bruce for a long time.  He's not you but he's close!  It felt good.

We had lots of quiet time after dinner.  We read 6 books.  I'm a little suspicious that it was it Good Night Moon six times.

The good news is that I slept right through the night.  But I was awake early - at 630.  Instead of starting to play right away, we all cuddled in bed and watched Sesame Street.  There was a story about Elmo and all his balls!  Luna wasn't sure who has more balls - Elmo or me.  She kinda made it sound like I had more.

We went on a long walk in a big park in Scottsdale - lots of cyclists, dogs ("og"), and walkers.  We found a playground.  Once I figured it out, it was just like mine.  I did all my own climbing and sliding.  But Luna joined in on a few rounds.

I think I miss you.  Luna says you miss me too but that we are all having a different kind of fun.  She says  she can't wait to see how happy I am when I see you tomorrow!

Love,

Logan

January Staycation: Postcard #2

Dear Mom and Dad,

Luna took me for a walk yesterday.  We climbed a HUGE hill.  She asked me to get out and help.  Doesn't she realize how this works?  I sit in a very comfy stroller, eating and drinking, and she has to do all the heavy lifting!

Luna is enjoying the view of Camelback Mt.
Last night was a fun night with Bruce.  Luna's book club friends were over so Bruce and I watched Wiggles, Thomas and John Wayne.  We read some books.  We played with balls.  And sort of chatted with each other.  Luna said this morning that she had fun overhearing what Bruce and I had been doing and saying.  Oh, and I charmed Luna's friends.

Bruce put me to bed at about 8 and I went right to sleep.  I slept all through the night.  Luna said you'd want to know that.

I have been playing and playing since I woke up at 730. I ate breakfast with Luna and Bruce.  After Bruce left for the office, Luna and I went out for another long walk.  This time she avoided the big hills.  What a weenie!

Her lemon trees are so loaded with lemons, she decided to start picking.  I helped.  Well, I helped by throwing my ball into the trees and she helped me retrieve it.  She said I was being a really big help.  I wonder if she knows that I know what sarcastic means?

Anyway, I played some more.  And more.  And more.  I was so hungry (at 11!) that I climbed into my high chair and waited for Luna to bring me lunch.  She gave me mac n cheese, goldfish and watermelon.  Yum.  Yum.

I hope you're having fun in San Diego.  Say hi to Shamu!

I love you,  Logan.

PS.  The best part about picking the lemons is that we found my little basketball in the trees.  I wonder how it go there?????

January Staycation: Postcard #1

Wednesday, January 15

Dear Mom and Dad,

I have been having fun playing on my tricycle.  I don't know how to do the pedals yet but Luna pushes me around.  Don't tell her, but I trick her a little bit.  I throw the ball far away so she has to push me a long way to the ball.  Hee.  Hee.  Hee.

I have also watched a Thomas episode or two.   We went to the grocery store.  Did I mention that we played with my balls for a long time?

Luna told me that she did something today she's never done.  She tasted some of the Gerbers Food.  (Can you believe that?  In all the little peeps she's taken care of, she's never tasted baby food?)  It was so awful that she spit it out and threw it away.  I heard her saying:  "...I refuse to serve food I don't like to anyone!  Let alone Logan".

Now she doesn't know if all the jars taste that way or just the spaghetti.  I'm not going to say anything because I think this might mean that there will be more mac n cheese, watermelon and peas in my future.

Love you,  Logan.

PS.  Mommy, happy birthday!

Does he have the collecting gene?

We were playing in the driveway when Logan spotted the cars. He started polishing up the Ferrari all on his own. Never giving up a bit on the death grip on his sippy cup, of course.

We feel like we were witnessing the beginning of Logan's career as a car collector. We're also pretty sure it was inevitable due to his genes.

Never has one child endeared himself to his grandfather so completely.

Playscape January 2014

This Christmas present to Logan was delivered in 4 boxes containing thousands of pieces - including the wood, the hardware and (sometimes inadequate) instructions.  We weren't exactly sure if it was a playscape or a cityscape.

Click on photo to see larger image.
The instructions said that it would take 2 men 6 to 8 hours to assemble.  In reality, it took 8 people (if you count Logan) working for 16 hours.  Now that does include the 2 hours that it took to correct a mistake on the afternoon of the first day.

We considered hiring one of the company's installers.  But we decided that it could be a fun family work project.  And it was.

Logan absolutely loves his playscape.  So do we.
